Manawatu Junior Rugby - July Update

Player & Supporter Conduct
This has been our major issue in term one.
We must clean up this area , and this will take a combined effort from all.
We need to be constantly vigilant with our players and our supporters.
I encourage you to download from the website 'coachingtoolbox.co.nz' the players and supporters codes of conduct.
Issue them to your coaches and have players and parents sign them.
This will get across the message of how serious this issue is.

I am aware of some clubs who have already done this , good on you guys.

The Competition Format
This year we have introduced finals football ,this gives teams a goal to strive for and a great sense of satisfaction can be gained when the goal is achieved. We have noted that some games are very competitive and the intensity is high , this is great for our game and for player development. However we must not let our competitiveness impact the game in a negative way.
Winning is great ,
Winning at all costs is not.
Play Hard , Play to Win , Play Fair.

Referees
We coaches who are refereeing games MUST remain impartial at all times.
This is especially important as we strive to bring player & sideline behaviour under control.
Remember you are closely involved with one of the teams and you need to keep in mind your role as a referee.
Control your competitive nature while you hold the whistle.
It is crucial that we do our very best if our competition format is to continue beyond 2009
We do not have the resources to supply neutral referees.
A fair and even contest is all everyone wants.

The Draw
The draw will change again in the new term.
U-9s which is a large grade of 16 teams will be split into 2 pools , the top 8 teams will play a round and the bottom
8 teams will play a round. This will provide competitive games for the remainder of the season in this grade.
COB U-10 will be moving up to the U-11s grade and we appreciate their co-operation for this move.

Bulls Tournament
Congratulations to the Bulls Junior Rugby Club Committee , Another great tournament enjoyed by all , well done to the winning teams

Reps
Representative coaches & selectors have been out viewing players , the process is well underway. This year Junior players will participate in programmes at U13 Open level and U12 Open level.

Enjoy ya rugby
Regards from the chair,
Doug Bettridge
