Manawatu Maori Teams for the 2010 Te Tina a Maui Tournament

Kia Ora
Te Tini A Maui, Tournament Dates Friday 26th and 27th Feb 2010,
Venue: Arena Manawatu Palmerston North.
This year 2010 is the centennial year for NZ Maori Rugby and our Te Tini A Maui Tournament (Central Maori Rugby Council) want to make this a special event for all ten unions within our Hurricanes area.
Manawatu in the last five years have been in the top four at Seniors and Womens what we have not accomplished is to win both in the same year.
We would like to do this in 2010 and can only achieve success with our Manawatu Rugby clubs help by releasing your Maori players from any preseason games on the 26th and 27th Feb 2010. as well as for training nights leading up to those dates.
To stay in the top four we have to beat Poverty Bay, Taranaki and Wellington, to be the best in the central North Island. We have to win all games. The Women have to beat Hawkes Bay and Wellington.
The senior Team will be coached by Potene Paewai 0273688895 and managed by Murray Signal 0276341299. The Womens team contact is Dixie Jones 0273918442.
Maori representation go back to the beginning where Manawatu were first represented by Rore Pirihira & Walter Winiata represented NZ Maori in 1910. Since then we have had a number of players representing the province and would like to continue this in the future.
The First practice is on Monday 15th Feb 2010 at Arena Manawatu from 6pm.
