Shout out to the Cyclones' own Layla Sae who was named Hurricanes Poua vice-captain. It's another great career milestone for Layla, who was the Hurricanes Poua 2023 Player of the Year.

JOHNNY GALLOWAY HANGS UP HIS BOOTS

Manawatū Turbos loose forward Johnny Galloway recently announced his retirement from rugby.

Johnny made his Turbos debut in the 2019 season opener against Hawke's Bay and went on to play 40 games for the province. He scored five tries for the Turbos, including a memorable try against Auckland in 2022 where he showed incredible pace on the outside.

HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAM TO PLAY P.I.R.

A Manawatū High Performance men's team will take on Pacific Island Rugby (PIR), an invitational team from Bay of Plenty on 17 February. This is an opportunity for players to put their best foot forward and get a taste of the MRU High Performance environment. SEE THE SQUAD LIST HERE

Where: Massey University

We encourage club and school rugby coaches, managers and committee members to come along to our Club Forum. The Forum will include:

  • an overview of the Sporty player registration system and an opportunity for you to ask questions
  • a presentation from the Hudl team who will show you how to get the most out of the system
  • a presentation from Manawatū Rugby's High Performance team 
  • an overview of community rugby, including law changes and changes to junior and youth grades
  • a presentation about the Instasport coaching app.
