Rugby Smart Course

2019 coaches will be require register through their school or club Sporty page and complete the online module before they attend the practical session and become a certificated coach in 2019.

A course concentrating on injury prevention through the coaching of good techniques, this course is a great opportunity to meet other coaches involved in club and secondary school rugby to discuss likely trends and possible focus areas for 2018, coaches also receive a Coaching Diary and other coaching resources available from New Zealand Rugby.

Who Should Go?
It is COMPULSORY for All coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers to attend a RugbySmart course prior to the season starting.

Any person actively fulfilling the role of Head Coach or Assistant Coach during a MRU Club Rugby competition fixture must have attended a Rugby Smart Injury Prevention Workshop for the current season and be registered for that current season. Any team/club appointing a Head Coach or Assistant Coach to a fixture that has not attended Rugby Smart and therefore considered unregistered shall be liable to the following penalties:

Points deduction, and/or the offending player and/or team shall be liable to suspension by the MRU, and/or to forfeit the match, and that winning points be awarded to the non-offending team. If a win is recorded then it stands, minus any points accrued by the offending team. If not, a 0-0 (4 points) win will be recorded.

There is only five opportunities for coaches to complete their Rugby Smart course before the deadline of the 3rd May. In previous years we have run a few outside of these booking to suit people needs, however due to our Coach Developer Manager being away during the 28th Feb-4th May we have had to hire another deliverer and stay within a set budget.

Rugby Smart Coaches have to attend one of those compulsory Rugby Smart Courses -no exceptions.
