Cyclones claim bonus point win

Manawatu Cyclones outlasted Bay of Plenty 22-10 in a tough defensive matchup in Palmerston North on Saturday.

The scoring opened up midway through the first half with Selica Winiata earning her 100th first class try, ghosting her way to the corner.

While the Cyclones defended well, they found themselves backed up near their try line.

However, they did not concede a first half try leaving Bay of Plenty to have to settle for a penalty conversion just before the half.

Bay of Plenty came out focused for the second half allowing Baye Jacob to score a converted try in the early minutes.

The Cyclones would rally and hold off the Bay of Plenty attack and reclaim the lead through Lauren Basille’s try in the 62nd minute.

After the sending off of Bay of Plenty’s lock Amanda Aldridge, the flood gates opened.

The Cyclones notched two more tries before full time. One by impact sub Megan Gaffney that further extended the lead of the Cyclones.

The final try came through a decisive run by the Player of the Match Kalyn Takitimu-Cook, slicing her way through the defense and finding her support. The try of the day was finally finished off by Vaine Greig in the corner.
