Porima completes positional shift
It will be a birthday to remember for Shanna Porima as she completes her shift from midfield to the side of the scrum when the Cyclones take on Waikato in Hamilton on Saturday.
Porima will make her first career start as a loose forward on her 29th birthday in the match which will be televised on Sky Sport.
Before this season, Porima had established herself as one of the Cyclones most consecutive performers in the midfield racking up 30 games.
After not playing last year, Porima returned this year with her eyes locked on a shift to the side of trhe scrum, where her sturdy defence and slick handling sees her well suited.
After being used off the bench to start the season, Porima now has a crack to lock down the No 6 jersey against a powerful Waikato team.
Porima's introduction to the starting side is one of a handful of changes to the Cyclones as their revolving door of availablie players continues in full swing.
They have welcomed back Vaine Greig and Maggie Leota back, but lost Carys Dallinger and Kalyn Takitimu-Cook to the New Zealand Under 18 Sevens team.
The side is also without fullback Selica Winiata for the match while she continues her recovery from concussion.
That hands Sydnee Wilkins a chance to shine in the No 15 jersey, the position she impressed in while playing three games for Tasman last year.
In the forwards, coach Fusi Feaunati has made two changes with Jessica Fagan-Pease replacing Rachael Rakatau at lock and Porima coming into the starting side for Samantha Olsen at flanker.
