Exciting Cyclones team confirmed

A host of returning names headline the 2020 Cyclones for the Farah Palmer Cup season.

The squad, which will once again be captained by legendary Black Ferns fullback Selica Winiata, was revealed at the squad launch at Manawatu Toyota on Thursday night.

Back in the team are New Zealand Sevens captain Sarah Hirini along with a trio of former New Zealand Sevens representatives Rebekah Tufuga, Rhiarna Ferris and Vaine Greig.

The returning quartet add some extra punch to a Cyclones side bustling with young talent with the likes of Rangimarie Sturmery, Kaipo Olsen-Baker and Layla Sae three to keep an eye on this year.

Rachael Rakatau is back after missing last season through pregnancy.

Janna Vaughan, Crystal Mayes and Sosoli Talawadua are others with experience in the black jersey.

Kahurangi Sturmey and Caterina Poletti will be two to watch in the pack along with Ngano Tavake, who after spending the club campaign in the midfield and debuting for the Cyclones as a loose forward last year will shift to the front row.

Taylor Waterson comes into the team having spent time playing rugby for Western Australia.

Carys Dallinger and Laura Claridge will battle it out for the No 10 jersey.

At halfback Lucy Brown will enter the season as the incumbent, while there is also Paige Lush, Kalyn Takitimu-Cook and Rangimarie Sturmey can also cover the No 9 jersey.

The Cyclones first game of the season is against Canterbury on September 12 in Palmerston North.
