Riverdale claim Junior Cup
Riverdale Red have booked themselves a trip to the Rippa Rugby Nationals after claiming the Junior Cup in spectacular fashion at Central Energy Trust Arena on Wednesday.
Faced against defending Manawatu champions, and national champions, College St Normal School Black, Riverdale turned on a strong display to win the final four tries to three.
Riverdale were persistent over the day with their squad's depth shining through. But it was their key play maker Nate Davis who shone through with both his impressive step on attack and committed defence playing key roles to his team's title run.
Riverdale beat Lytton St Blue in the semifinals 8-2.
Lytton St were coming off playing in the match of the day - a tight tussle with Parkland Yellow that ended up going to golden-point extra time.
College St Normal School Black's route to the finals involved knocking out one of the schools other three teams, College St Normal School White, in the semifinal.
There were 29 schools entered in the tournament.
Intermediates will battle out for bragging rights in the Mark Donaldson Cup on Thursday.
