Three debutants for Cyclones

Three players will have a chance to make their Cyclones debuts from the bench in the Manawatū’s Farah Palmer Cup season opener against Canterbury at Central Energy Trust Arena on Saturday.

Caterina Poletti, Paige Lush and Alesha Williams have all been named in the reserves in a near full-strength Cyclones squad for the match.

Just Sarah Hirini and Kahurangi Sturmey were not considered due to injury.

There is plenty experience up front where former Black Fern Sosoli Talawadua is joined by Manu Sina captain Marilyn Live at prop inbetween experienced provincial campaigner Jayme Nuku.

Ashleigh Knight and Rachael Rakatau pack down at lock with Rhiarna Ferris, back after a couple of seasons focusing on sevens, is on the blindside and Sam Tipene at openside flanker.

Exciting schoolgirl talend Kaipo Olsen-Baker is at No 8.

Incumbent No 9 Lucy Brown has retained the halfback jersey ahead of Lush while Carys Dallinger will have first crack at the No 10 jersey having beaten out Laura Claridge.

The midfield of Crystal Mayes and Vaine Greig has plenty of big game experience while Kalyn Takitimu-Cook, Janna Michal Vaughan and Selica Winiata make for an exciting back three.

The bench includes New Zealand Sevens representative Rebekah Tufuga covering hooker, the versitile Nagno Tavake, who spent much of the club season in the midfield and on the side of the scrum, covering prop.

Poletti covers lock with Layla Sae the loose forward cover. The back reserves are Lush, Rangimarie Sturmey and Williams.
