Varsity and Yellows near full-strength for weeks seven clash
Both Varsity and Feilding Yellows are celebrating a return of some key players ahead of their round seven clash in McDonalds Manawatu Senior One Club Rugby.
The Sky Blues are almost back to full-strength with Nick Grogan and Doug Juszczyk on the bench.
Their return helps build some depth for the side that found its groove during a comfortable win over Kia Toa last week.
Yellows will welcome the return of 2018 Turbo No 8 Sam Wasley to the fold for his first match of the season.
The powerful No 8 played a key role in Yellows’ charge to the final last year with most struggling to handle him one-on-one.
With the likes of Sean Rankin, Harry Jones and Luke Clarke up front, there should be a good platform for him to attack from.
Also making his first start for the season is first five-eighth Ben Wyness.
He returned from injury off the bench a couple of weeks ago, but was then called into the Hurricanes camp.
With that duo back, not to mention Turbo lock Nick Crosswell and academy players Griffin Culver, Drew Wild and Josiah Maraku, the Yellows side is starting to look like it a championship-worthy gloss to it.
Old Boys-Marist and Feilding Old Boys-Oroua will both be looking for a strong performance after unconvincing efforts on Good Friday.
The Stags have been given good service by loose forwards Nardus Eramus and Alex Hawira and that duo will need to set the tone up front when they come up against the inform Matene Ruawai and Jeremy Dobson of OBM.
FOB-Oroua will be hoping to get their backline plenty of space and the pacey Shaq Waara has proven his ability to cross the chalk when given a sniff.
After heavily resting their squad last week, OBM have most of their top squad back with Ben Werthmuller and Shadyn Osgood the dangermen.
College Old Boys will roll out a new halves pairing for their match against Freyberg.
Andrew McDougall will slot into the No 9 jersey having previously started at first five-eighth and fullback this season, while Stewart Cruden is rested on the bench to allow touch rugby star Jahlon Governor an opportunity in the No 10 jersey.
Andre Taylor will make his return from concussion at fullback.
For Freyberg, look out for Trevor Shane Baker at lock and the consistent Jeremiah Saua at prop.
Kia Toa are searching for a much-needed win ahead of their match against Te Kawau.
Te Kawau may only have one win to their name this season, but they have proven to be a tough side to dispatch.
With the likes of Te Atuarere Albert and Sam Stewart which will help give them some grunt up front.
Kia Toa are light on loose forwards with both Iose brothers out.
They will need a big showing from Lifeimi Mafi at first five-eighth, while dangerman Jono Ihaka will be lurking at fullback.
