Manawatu were defeated by Counties Manukau, 17-24, in the open final after Manawatu won against Auckland 12-7 in the semi-final.

The team reach the final four with a 26-10 win over Wellington in the quarterfinal.

The women reached the quarterfinals with three wins on day one. However, they were made to work hard two of their victories. After dispatching North Harbour 33-5 in game one, they had to come from behind against Otago, eventually winning 20-10 before edging past Waikato 17-12 in their final match of the day.

In the men’s competition, Manawatu suffered from a slow start on day one to compete in the Bowl competition and lost to Canterbury in the semi-final after defeating Southland 27-19 in the quarterfinal.

On day one, Manawatu were defeated by Counties Manukau, 26-7 before losing to Northland by 33-5. The men finally got a win on the board on day one with a 29-12 victory over South Canterbury in game three.
