The Associate Referee Course is an introduction to refereeing, which takes around  90  minutes.

On completion of the course, participants will be legally able to referee using contested scrums up to and including Under 19s rugby.

We as a union are encouraging all “Playing Rugby” level Small Blacks teams to have an associate referee so the games can be facilitated well while the coaches can get on and do their coaching. We also recommend clubs and schools have associate referees they can call on in the event a referee cannot be appointed to a game or some extenuating reason a referee cannot make their game.
