Manawatū Rugby is today acknowledging the contribution and departure of Hayden Triggs, who finishes his time with the Union on 28 November after serving as Turbos Assistant Coach and Coach Development Facilitator.
Triggs joined the organisation in 2023, bringing with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience, alongside a deep personal connection to the Manawatū. Across the past year, he has played a significant role in the development of our Turbos environment and in the growth of coaches across our clubs, schools, and wider community.
Head of Performance, Wes Clarke, expressed his appreciation for Triggs’ impact.
“I have loved working with Triggs over the past 12 months. He is a workhorse who will be sorely missed around the office. The players have loved his coaching, and he has added value throughout the organisation as well as the wider community. His knowledge and experience with the Turbos was invaluable to me coming in after a long time away and I am very grateful for all his help.”
Triggs has accepted an exciting opportunity to join the Hurricanes Poua and the Black Ferns Hub in Wellington, a move that aligns with his coaching aspirations and continues his progression in the high-performance space.
CEO Doug Tietjens highlighted the significance of Triggs’ next step.
“Trigga has been a tremendous asset, and his dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. Part of Manawatū Rugby’s role is to provide opportunities not only for players but also for staff. His move is a testament to that. We wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him continue to achieve in his coaching career.”
MRU Board Chairman, Bertus Mulder, also acknowledged Triggs’ contribution.
“A massive thank you, Hayden, for the contributions you have made — both as a player and as a coach. Your passion for this province was clear to see in every action. We’re excited for your journey ahead and know you’ll continue to make Manawatū proud.”
Triggs’ influence has extended across our professional teams and community pathways, where he leaves a legacy of hard work, humility, and genuine commitment to developing people through rugby.
Manawatū Rugby congratulates Hayden on his new role and wishes him every success. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow, evolve, and inspire in his next chapter.
