Manawatū Rugby is pleased to confirm Johnny Leota has joined the Union in a dual role as Manawatū Turbos Assistant Coach and Coach Development Lead.

A proud Manawatū product, Leota returns to the region after a lengthy stint in the UK, where he has been part of the Sale Sharks environment and continued building his coaching experience within their academy and pathway space.

Leota also brings a strong provincial connection, having played 62 games for the Manawatū Turbos and will now help strengthen both the Turbos programme and the wider coaching network across our region.

Head of Performance Wesley Clarke said the appointment is a major boost for both high performance and community impact.

“I’m really excited to work with Johnny again. He is a great Manawatū man that has given a lot on and off the field to the region. Johnny will also bring a wealth of experience from the Northern hemisphere. His breadth of knowledge will be a great boost to the Turbos and also the wider coaching community.”
