The return of New Zealand Sevens captain Sarah Goss was the highlight of the Manawatu Women’s Sevens team named to defend their National Provincial Sevens title next weekend.

The Manawatu Women’s Sevens team claimed the Central Region Sevens title for the seventh consecutive year in Levin on Saturday.
A quartet of Turbos has bolstered the Manawatu Men’s Sevens team ahead of the Central Region Sevens in Levin on Saturday, but it could be one of the side’s lesser known names who steals the show.

Feilding High School and Manawatu Academy centre Josiah Maraku has been named in the 2019 New Zealand Secondary Schools squad.
Maraku, who played for the New Zealand Schools Barbarians in 2017, was part of a 26-player squad who will contest matches against Tonga Schools, Australia Schools Barbarians and Australia Schools.
Maruku has been a key member of the Feilding High School First XV for the past four years.
His pace and deceptive strength have made him a standout at schoolbpoy level and was a key reason he was signed to the Manawatu Academy squad at the end of last season.
Palmerston North Boys' High School first five-eighth Stewart Cruden was picked in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Barbarians side.
The Barbarians play the New Zealand Under 18 Maori and Fiji Schools.
Boys' High teammate Reuben Love was selected in the New Zealand Maori Under 18s along with Hato Paora's Nikora Broughton.
They play matches against the New Zealand Schools Barbarians and Fiji Schools.
Manawatu have won the 2018 Air New Zealand Rippa Rugby Championship in a high-scoring gold medal match against Bay of Plenty in Wellington today.
