College St Normal School Black claim Junior Cup
College Street Normal School Black retained the Junior Cup at the annual Manawatu Rugby Union rippa rugby tournament.
The side defended their title at the tournament for year 5 and 6 students after beating Central Normal School Speed Demons 12-1 in the final on the backfields of CET Arena on Wednesday.
By winning the Manawatu tournament, College Street Normal School now get an invitation to the New Zealand National Rippa Rugby Tournament in Wellington in September.
Thirty-one teams contested the tournament.
College Street Normal School Black were the form team of the tournament racking up an incredible 41-1 aggregate score through their three pool matches.
The Central Normal School Speed Demons, Somerset Soldiers, Newbury Rockets, Milson Magic, Linton Hurricanes, Lytton St and Milson Mana all joined them in the quarter finals.
The latter two sides advanced after very tight battles in pool play.
Lytton St drew with College St Normal School White in pool play and then finished even on the points table. Points differential saw Lytton St advance.
It was even closer between Milson Mana and Turitea Strike Force, who also both drew against each other and finished even on competition points. With an identical points differential, it came down to tries scored with Milson ahead by two.
In the semifinals, Central Normal School Speed Demons beat Lytton Street 6-4 and College Street Normal School Black beat Linton Hurricanes 14-0.
